What it does
- Drop in MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC or M4A (AAC and ALAC) files or whole folders, or connect a Rekordbox 6 or 7 library and pick the collection or a few playlists.
- Choose a target loudness in LUFS. Trimify measures each track's loudness and true peak, then shows the gain it applies.
- Every leveled file keeps its source's format, tags and cover art. Your originals are never edited, unless you choose Rekordbox's Replace files mode.
- Optional clipping protection or a peak limiter stop loud tracks from clipping. Both are off by default.
- Everything happens on your computer. There's no account, no analytics, and Trimify doesn't send your files or library anywhere.
Install
Windows 10 and 11
- Run the downloaded
Trimify_…_x64-setup.exe, and choose whether to install it for just you or for everyone on the computer. - The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may show Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
- Open Trimify from the Start menu.
The MSI is for managed installs: msiexec /i Trimify_…_x64_en-US.msi.
macOS
- Download the disk image for your Mac: Apple Silicon for M1 and newer, Intel for older Macs. Not sure which you have? Apple menu → About This Mac → Chip.
- Open it, drag Trimify into Applications, then eject the disk image.
- Trimify isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open it once and click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway next to Trimify.
- If macOS says Trimify "is damaged and can't be opened", run this in Terminal and open it again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Trimify.app
Linux
- Debian, Ubuntu and Mint:
sudo apt install ./Trimify_*_amd64.deb - Fedora:
sudo dnf install ./Trimify-*.x86_64.rpm - Arch:
sudo pacman -U trimify-*-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst. It uses the system's FFmpeg and rsgain; rsgain may need to come from the AUR. - AppImage:
chmod +x Trimify_*_amd64.AppImage, then run it.
Trimify checks for FFmpeg and rsgain, the audio tools it uses, when it starts, and tells you if either is missing.
Before you use it with Rekordbox
- The trimified folder (default). Leveled copies go into a top-level
trimifiedplaylist folder that mirrors the playlists they came from. Copies keep the source's beatgrid, hot cues, memory cues, My Tags, artwork and analysis, and their auto-gain allows for the gain Trimify applied. Your original tracks and playlists aren't changed. - Undoing it. Delete the
trimifiedfolder and its copies in Rekordbox, or restore the database backup Trimify made. - Trying it safely. Copy the Rekordbox data folder somewhere else, then choose that copy's
master.dbin Trimify.
Known limitations
Read these before a gig
- Timing of lossy copies. WAV, AIFF, FLAC and ALAC copies are sample-aligned with their sources, so cues and grids line up exactly. MP3 and AAC are re-encoded, and differences in encoder delay can shift audio by a few milliseconds, depending on how the original was made. Spot-check cues on a few lossy tracks.
- Waveform height. Copies reuse the source's waveform previews, which show the level before leveling until Rekordbox re-analyses the track.
- Seek data. Copies and relinked tracks have their FLAC seek index and cue seek positions cleared, which is how Rekordbox treats tracks analysed by older versions.
- Duplicates. Copies share their sources' metadata, so the Collection and any smart playlists show both versions; the trimified folder holds only the leveled ones.
- Mirroring scope. Processing the whole collection mirrors regular playlists. Smart playlists are mirrored, as ordinary playlists, only when you select them.
- Not copied: Active Censor edits and hot cue bank lists.
- Replace files mode doesn't update Rekordbox's stored auto-gain or FLAC seek index; re-analyse those tracks in Rekordbox afterwards.
- Limiter readings. The limiter aims under −1 dBTP, but ITU true-peak meters, rsgain included, can read up to about 0.25 dB higher on music, and MP3 or AAC encoding adds a small overshoot on top.
